Lake Cochickewick, site of the original settlement of the Andovers and presently the town?s water supply is the focal point of North Andover. The town of Andover is located in Essex County in the northeastern part of Massachusetts, approximately 23 miles north of Boston. Located on the banks of the Merrimack River, Andover is bordered on the north by the cities of Lawrence and Methuen, on the east by the town of North Andover, on the south by the towns of North Reading and Wilmington, and on the west by the towns of Tewksbury and Dracut. Andover has approximately 32 square miles of land area, and 223 miles of roadways.
Located twenty-four miles northwest of Boston, North Andover is emerging as a highly sought-after residential community. This historic town has grown considerably in the past few years but the townspeople pride themselves on maintaining a rural flavor. North Andover is located in Essex County. The town lies along the banks of the Merrimack River and settlement of the town began in 1640 becoming incorporated as Andover in 1646. The community was split into the North Parish, now North Andover, and South Parish, now Andover, in 1709. North Andover was incorporated as a separate entity in 1855.
